This full day course, presented by Kate Upcraft, looks at how to provide a compliant payroll service. Payroll has become increasingly complex over recent years. While much processing is automated by software, it is incumbent on all those who process or oversee payroll for clients to have sufficient up to date knowledge. To then check that the operation of software is compliant and explain the processing to clients and colleagues within the practice.

This is an introductory level day course aimed at the finance profession to provide an opportunity to revisit or to learn the essential building blocks of providing a compliant payroll service.

Course topics include:

  • The payroll calendar, RTI obligations and business tax accounts for clients
  • National insurance table letters, classes and calculations
  • Income Tax: how codes are created, allocated to new starters and the calculation of tax
  • Student Loans: setting up a loan deduction and calculations
  • The apprenticeship levy: what, who and how?
  • An overview of statutory sick pay and statutory maternity pay

There’ll be a chance to practice tax and NI calculations during the day so bring a calculator!
