The course presented by Dr Stephen Hill, will review how the rapid pace of technological change and globalisation have profoundly transformed the scale and way personal data is collected, accessed, used and transferred.

This course is aimed at all those in the accountancy and finance profession.

All firms and businesses need to ensure their systems are robust enough to meet GDPR requirements and secure enough to deal with cyber exposures. It has been reported that 2.9 million UK firms suffered cybersecurity breaches nationwide in 2016 at a cost of £29.1 billion. In fact, according to research carried out by Juniper Research the cost of cybercrime on global business could reach as much as $2.1 trillion by 2019.

Not only are organisations facing increasing challenges to safeguard their data from cyber-attack, but pressure is on to comply with the ‘General Data Protection Regulation’ (GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018. This requires organisations not only to comply but to demonstrate their compliance. Getting it wrong can be costly, with penalties of up to 4% of annual global turnover.

Course topics include:

  • How to recognise their organisation’s current cyber exposures

  • Understand the requirements of the GDPR

  • Identify the safeguards required to protect their data in line with GDPR

  • Data in the cloud
