Malcolm qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1995 winning the John Wood Medal for the best paper on Business Taxation. He worked for BPP for 18 years where he lectured on financial reporting and tax. His other roles at BPP included setting up a successful office in Luton, project managing a new ERP system including on-line booking and directing ATT and CIOT course. In 2004 he moved to the Professional Development division of BPP and was appointed Head of Finance and Tax Programmes.
In 2008 Malcolm left and set up his own
training and consultancy company which he has run ever since. He continues to
design and deliver accounting and tax programmes to accounting firms and
clients across a wide range of industries including financial services,
pharmaceuticals, airlines and oil and gas. He is passionate about training and
his enthusiasm ensures that participants enjoy the learning experience. Malcolm
also provides consultancy advice to accounting firms and companies on a wide
range of accounting, direct tax and particularly VAT matters.

Louise is continuously involved in training and consultancy, both for professional firms and for commercial organisations since 1987. Professional clients include Kingston Smith, BKR Haines Watts, BDO Stoy Hayward, Chantrey Vellacott DFK, Blick Rothenberg, the ACCA, the British Postgraduate Medical Federation, the Swedish Ministry of Justice, the Royal Aircraft Establishment and a number of NHS hospitals.

Technical Consultant - Accounting and Audit
Mike Ulrich ACA, has been involved in presenting courses and seminars to professional accountants for over 20 years. The presentations covering a wide range of company law, auditing and accounting topics. As well as general courses on auditing and accounting issues he also presents specialist courses in respect of charities, pension schemes, solicitors, service charges, and LLPs.
He is a technical consultant on accounting and audit matters to a number of firms providing answers to real life issues. He also undertakes compliance reviews, both audit and audit exempt, for a number of firms and provides advice and guidance as required. Both of these provide him with an insight into those topics which are of practical interest to practitioners and accountants in commerce. He has his own practice and is a statutory auditor.
With this background it enables him
to see both the theory and practical aspects and the presentations reflect
David has considerable experience in financial training. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1987 and went on to work as an audit maager with BDO until 1990, when he became a full-time financial trainer. Until 1994, David mainly delivered courses preparing students for their professional examinations for ICAEW, ACCA and CIMA qualifications.
From 1994, David concentrated on delivering continuing professional development training on international developments in financial reporting.
David has personally delivered over 1,000 days training to representatives of international PLCs, Investment Banks, accountancy firms, and several major law firms.
With experience ranging from
the smallest owner-managed business through to major international PLCs, David
is able to appreciate the practical implementation of developments for the
users and preparers of accounts.
Chartered Accountant and Tax Specialist
Tony has been a Chartered Accountant and tax specialist for over 30 years of which nearly 20 years were as tax partner with BDO and Mazars. He advises owner managed businesses, both large and small, on all aspects of direct taxation and tax planning affecting them and the people that own them, including subsidiaries or branches of overseas companies. This has involved him in tax planning for businesses coming to the UK, foreign business owners setting up here, group structuring, transfer pricing and employment tax matters and partnerships.
More recently, Tony has specialised in
advising charities on direct taxation matters particularly those relating to
trading, Gift Aid and other tax effective giving and the establishment and
running of trading subsidiaries. He was the charity tax partner at BDO and
Mazars and he writes for Tolleys Charities Manual and lectures on direct tax
issues for charities and donors. Through his work with the Charities’ Tax
Group, he is involved in the consultation process with HMRC on the application
and reform of tax legislation affecting the not for profit sector.
Dental Business Unit Partner, UNW LLP
Alan is a Chartered Accountant and Partner in UNW LLP chartered accountants where he is Head of the Dental Business Unit which looks after more than 400 dentist clients throughout the UK. Alan writes regularly for the dental press, and presents at BDA seminars.
He is a member of the National Association of Specialist Dental Accountants & Lawyers (NASDAL) and a member of the technical committee, and chair of the NHS Superannuation committee.
He is also a member of the Association of Specialist
Providers to Dentistry (ASPD). Alan is the editor of the quarterly NASDAL

Dr Ros Martin
Consulant and Lecturer
Ros is a consultant and lecturer covering all aspects of direct tax as well as Stamp Duty Land Tax. She was an Inland Revenue fully trained Inspector until 2000 when she left to become a consultant advising on tax planning for large and small businesses and individuals as well as dealing with full and aspect enquiry work.
Her clients are mainly small and medium sized accountants and the consultancy work gives a particular opportunity to understand the key issues of concerns for such professionals and consider the practical aspects of the application of legislation.
The expansion of her subject range to include
Stamp Duty and Stamp Duty Land Tax resulted in lecturing to an Inland Revenue
audience on the subject.
Freelance Tax Lecturer
Martyn qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1982 and has specialised in taxation ever since. He became a member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation in 1983 whilst working for the London office of a large international accounting firm.
For ten years Martyn worked for a leading training company lecturing in taxation and other accounting subjects to students preparing for their accountancy and taxation examinations, as well as on CPE and CPD courses.
On his return to professional practice in January 1997 Martyn joined Horwath Clark Whitehill, becoming a partner in October 1998.
has been a freelance tax lecturer for 15 years, providing tax training for
accountants, lawyers, corporate financiers and other professionals whilst at
the same time running his own tax consultancy. His main area of interest is tax
planning for owner-managed businesses, in particular exit and succession planning,
employee share schemes and restructuring. He also advises a number of clients
in the property sector.
Dr Stephen Hill
Managing Director, Hill Bingham Ltd
Dr Stephen Hill is the managing director of Hill Bingham Ltd. He is an expert trainer and consultant with over 20 years’ experience providing services to the private and public sector in fraud (cyber) risk management, data security/protection and internet investigations & open source intelligence.
Stephen spent over 11 years working for a top national firm of chartered accountants heading the Fraud and Forensic Group, leading an expert body advising clients on prevention, detection and recovery of fraudulent assets, working closely with the police, HMRC and private sector.
Dr Hill spent 12 years as a Trustee Director of the Fraud Advisory Panel and is now a special advisor. He chaired the Fraud Advisory Panel's Cybercrime Working Group with colleagues from the public, private, and third sectors. He is an honorary member on the steering committee of the London Fraud Forum and sits on the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners UK Chapter committee.
Stephen spent 2 years training the National Crime Agency and their National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU) and has since become a National Crime Agency Special advising on OSINT and internet investigations.
Dr Hill has spoken at conferences in the UK, Europe, UAE and SE Asia aimed at both corporate and regulatory sectors. He has recently returned from a tour of Australia and New Zealand visiting the major cities and speaking to audiences on the risks of cyber-crime and the importance of open source intelligence. In addition, he has trained UK and European police forces (including Operation Podium in the buildup to the 2012 Olympics), the Lithuania’s Cyber Crime Unit, SOCA, private-sector fraud units, not-for-profit organisations, and major world banks, telecommunication companies and retailers.
He has written for several well-known publications, including The Sunday Times, Accountancy Magazine, FS Focus, Recovery Journal, Charity Finance, and the Solicitors Journal, and commented on Radio 5 and the BBC's Real Story. Stephen has contributed to many fraud and risk management publications, including CIMA's Fraud Risk Management: A Guide to Good Practice.
Stephen has published a book called Corporate Fraud: Prevention & Detection by Bloomsbury Professional with practical advice on all aspects of fraud and how to prevent it, with the royalties going to the charity Victim Support. He is currently working on a new publication on open source intelligence and internet-based investigations.
With an appointment as a Volunteer to the City of London police Economic Crime Directorate, Stephen assists fraud investigators with the aid of online investigation techniques. In addition, he is an associate lecturer at the Economic Crime Academy at the City of London police running foundation and advanced level internet investigation and open source intelligence courses. Stephen speaks to schools on the dangers of the Internet in line with his role as a safeguarding and child protection governor at his local primary school.

Kate Upcraft AMBCS mGPA is a regular conference speaker, lecturer and writer on legislative issues, including tax and National Insurance, benefits and the whole range of employer compliance responsibilities. She undertakes consultancy work with employers and payroll agents assisting them with topics such as payroll health checks, RTI and auto-enrolment, systems selection and departmental re-engineering.
Kate is vice Chair of the ICAEW Employment Taxes and NI committee and Chair of the pan-professional Reward and Employment Engagement Forum.
Prior to setting up her own company in 2005, she
was the Payroll Legislation Manager at M&S, for whom she worked for 20
years, eleven of them in payroll.

Russell Cockburn is a practising independent tax consultant with over 30 years’ experience in UK taxes covering personal and business taxes and advising private clients and other professionals.

Dr Stephen McAlpine
Stephen McAlpine is a Chartered Accountant with considerable practical and training experience. He has been responsible for accountancy training to a variety of organisations, including open courses; ranging from small businesses to major quoted companies.
Stephen had almost ten years’ experience as training manager in two medium size firms of Chartered Accountants before becoming a freelance trainer and independent reviewer of files for technical standards for about 60 firms of accountants.
As a complement to his training and technical commitments,
Stephen is a partner in an audit and accountancy practice which he founded in
1993. The firm’s clients are owner managed, and Stephen provides them all the
routine professional services they require from an accountant.

Henry (53) is CEO of Inform Direct the company secretarial software company he founded in 2012. Last year Inform Direct successfully made over 1 million submissions to Companies House.
Before starting Inform Direct Henry spent 14 years as CEO with pensions specialists Suffolk Life growing the assets under management from £3.5M to £3.5 Billion. Before this he has a vague recollection of qualifying as a solicitor with Macfarlanes in London.
He met his wife Imogen at St Matthew’s Church in Ipswich where they are both still actively involved. They have two sons. Henry is slowly introducing his family to sailing, golf and bee-keeping – in no particular order!

Frances has been at Moon Beever since 1984, qualifying in 1986, and a partner since 1988, becoming Managing Partner in 2000, & Senior Partner in 2014. She is Head of Insolvency and Litigation at Moon Beever running a substantial team of insolvency and litigation specialists. She was Chairman of the Appeal Committee at ACCA for ten years. Frances was President of R3 2011-2012, and remains a member of R3 Policy Group and on Council.
She now chairs the R3 Fraud Group. She is a Board Trustee of the Fraud Advisory Panel, a charity dedicated to anti-fraud work. She is a Special Constable with the National Crime Agency. Richard Boulding joined Moon Beever in September 2018. Richard had previously been a partner with a well-known Bristol firm of solicitor for some 25 years, where he was head of private client for some 14 years and finance partner for 5 years.
Richard is head of Moon Beever’s private client team which continues to enjoy complimentary comments from professionals for the quality of its work.
